Holland Rec Summer 2024: Session A

Song List

1. Here's our Class Playlist, including:
  • Phonics Song
  • "Side to Side"
  • "Walk Around"
  • "Baby Shark"

2. There's a LOT of kid's songs on YouTube, but for my signing songs and/or for toddler/preschool songs, I usually go with Super Simple Songs. They have my favorite versions of popular kid's songs (Baby Shark, etc.).

3. During non-instructional class time, I usually play the Ziggy Marley Children's Radio Station on Pandora

Tips for Finding A Sign

When I'm searching for a sign, these are the steps I take, in this order (most efficient to least):

Step 1. Internet search with the search terms "Lifeprint" and "ASL" -
  • example: "peach ASL lifeprint"
  • Here's the Why: the Lifeprint website is run by highly skilled and knowledgeable Bill Vicars, who is Deaf, married to a Deaf woman and fully immersed in the Deaf community. This is important because you can trust that he shares out only true ASL signs his information will be culturally appropriate in terms of how it relates to the Deaf community.
Step 2. If you can't find the sign via the Lifeprint website, do an internet search with the search terms "ASL" and "sign"
  • example: "peach ASL sign"
  • Here's the Why: ASL = American Sign Language. We always want to use true ASL signs whenever possible. If you type in "baby sign" or something similar, you may end up with a made-up sign rather than a true ASL sign.

Random Resources Discussed in Class:
  • This is my favorite timer (from Time Timer) - I usually get the 8" version
  • I love this Countdown app
