make & take sensory workshop:
Colored rice sensory bin
+ glitter calm-down jar

Join us for an afternoon of creating and chatting - and go home with a colorful sensory bin and glitter sensory bottle (a.k.a. "calm-down jar") in your choice of colors! You and your child will love them both!

Curious about the benefits of these items? Check out why I love sensory bins and why I love calm-down jars.

How it works: All materials and instructions will be provided. Please come prepared to dye the rice and assemble the bin + jar yourself.

If you are unable to attend the workshop but are dying (get it?!) to get your hands on this fun sensory stuff, you can pick up the materials and directions from me and make them yourself (no additional charge) or there is an optional add-on below to have these items made for you and delivered to your house in Holland or Grand Rapids ($10 additional charge).

NOTE: Space is limited and pre-registration required!

Details:
  • $40 - price includes all necessary supplies, just bring yourself and your creative juices!
  • What's included:
    • all necessary supplies to make non-toxic colored rice for your sensory bin (your choice of color)
    • 8-12 items to put in your sensory bin (to match your color choice) + several plastic spoons and containers for scooping, pouring and dumping. Thought will be given to potential choking hazards when items are selected (although caregivers are ultimately responsible for supervising their children and managing choking hazards)
    • plastic bin + lid (approximately 24" long, 14" wide, 6" deep) - extra long bin is available for $10 additional charge + includes additional materials to fill larger bin
    • all necessary supplies to make plastic sensory jar  (your choice of color)
    • information on how to use your sensory bin and bottle at home

**Note: For this workshop, I welcome babies in arms. However, due to the mess potential of this workshop, please make arrangements to provide mobile children with care outside of the workshop. Thank you for understanding. **

    workshop registration FORM

    Registration Form Directions:
Please complete this form, then click "continue" below to add the workshop to your shopping cart. You will then need to checkout and pay. If you prefer to send a check or pay by cash, that is no problem - please complete this form, click "continue" so that the form is submitted, then contact Emily at 616-366-4231 or emily (at) high5cr.com to make payment arrangements.

    Optional add-ons

Optional Add-On 1: Extra Long Bin
Note: standard size bin is included in workshop fee. Extra long bin is an additional $10 and includes additional materials to fill larger bin.

Extra long bin is better suited for households with multiple children, older children or for children who like to climb IN the box (that's my kid! Lol). If you attend the High 5 Fun Foundations classes, the extra long bin is the size I typically bring to class.

Optional Add-On 2: Fine Motor Color Matching Wheel
If purchased, all pieces of the color wheel will be assembled and laminated by me ahead of time and given to you at the workshop ready to use.

It measures 8" round and includes 6 colors + 4 pictures for each color (even though only 3 pictures are shown here). All pieces will be laminated and all pictures will be affixed to a clothespin.

This is a fun activity to practice language + skills around colors (color matching, color identification, color naming), preposition language (on, off) AND fine motor skills!

    Optional Add-On 3:

PROBLEM: "Oh no! I can't come but still want this awesome stuff!"

SOLUTION 1: I will make these items for you and drop off to your house in Holland or Grand Rapids

Solution 2: I will prep all the materials and instructions for you so you can make this stuff at home. Save yourself the shopping trips and research on how to do everything.

    Enrollment policies

Thank you for enrolling in a High 5 workshop!

In an effort to create a rich learning environment and to provide families with the best programming possible, please note the following policies:

High 5 Communication Resources DOES NOT OFFER MAKE-UP CLASSES.  If you register for this workshop and are unable to attend, no refunds will be given. However, arrangements can be made for you to pick up all of your supplies at a later date so that you can create your sensory activities at home. Please contact Emily to inquire about this if need be.

    Withdrawal Requests
All classes run based on meeting minimum enrollment requirements (at least 4 families enrolled within 4 days of scheduled class).  If the minimum is not met, enrolled families will be contacted and refunded in full for registration fees.

Seven days before the first class, materials costs and space rental fees are paid.  As such, High 5 appreciates your understanding that there are no exceptions to the following:
    • Withdrawal requests made 7 or more days before a session begins will receive a full refund minus a $20 cancellation fee.
    • Withdrawal requests made less than 7 days before the first class of a session will receive a credit good for 6 months minus the cost of the materials.
    • No refunds or credits will be made after class under any circumstances.
    • No refunds or credits will be made for missed classes.

    Inclement Weather
    • I make decisions regarding weather-related cancelations after checking with decisions made by area public schools (Hamilton, Saugutuck, Holland, Zeeland, Grand Rapids).  If area schools are closed due to weather, High 5 will likely not be running classes that day.  In the event of late openings due to weather, High 5 will use discretion in canceling classes and will contact participants in the event a class needs to be canceled with as much notification as possible, but no later than 8:30am on the day of the class. Participants will be contacted via the method chosen during registration.
    • Classes that are canceled due to inclement weather may be made up in another class.  Please inquire with your class instructor for additional details in this occurrence.

    Siblings & Additional Adults:
    • We allow up to two (2) adults to attend per family (each family makes 1 bin and 1 jar per registration fee - if you would each like to make a bin + jar, please register and pay for each adult separately).
    • **Note: For this workshop, I welcome babies in arms. However, due to the mess potential of this workshop, please make arrangements to provide mobile children with care outside of the workshop. Thank you for understanding. **

    Liability Waiver:
By registering for a class with High 5 Communication Resources, the parent and/or guardian agrees to:
    • Release High 5 Communication Resources, its owners, employees, instructors, volunteers and staff from all liability for injury to his/her child from his/her child’s participation in the class.
