Potty time!!

Songs Specific to Potty Training:
Lyrics:

1. I can pee & poop on the potty
I can pee & poop on the potty
Yes, I can pee & poop on the potty
Yes, I can! I can pee and poop on the potty

2. I wash my hands after I go potty…
3. I’m a big kid now, I go to the potty…

Lyrics:

Now, pull your pants down.
Then, your underwear.
Sit on the potty and
pee, pee, pee!
Pee slides down the potty.
Wee, wee, wee, wee,
wee, wee, wee!
Potty, potty see you, when I pee again!

Chorus: In the potty, in the potty, in the potty. (x2)

Now, pull your pants down.
Then, your underwear.
Sit on the potty and
poop, poop, poop!
Poopoo goes down the potty.
Poopy, poopy, poopy, doop!
Potty, potty see you,
when I poop again.

Chorus: In the potty, in the potty, in the potty. (x2)
Lyrics:
(tune of Frere Jacques/Are You Sleeping)

Tops and bottoms (x 2)
In between (x 2)
All around my hands (x 2)
Now they’re clean (x 2)

The Potty Gear We Have at Our House:

My Favorite Potty Books
Picture
This is my and Callum's absolute favorite potty book. I love it for lots of reasons...
  • the character could be a boy or a girl
  • it talks about sitting and waiting on the potty, which can be a big part of potty training in the beginning stages
  • it has very few words, which allow you to make it a quick read if you'd like OR add/expand on favorite pages
  • it talks about underwear and helps kids get excited about underwear
  • it has a dog and a cat in it, which is VERY exciting for Callum ;)
Drawbacks:
  • no discussion of other aspects of the going potty routine, such as flushing, wiping or washing hands

Some kids master the art of peeing in the toilet and then get stuck on the pooping part. I think part of this is the language in which we talk about poop - it can be a little shameful. "Ew, you're stinky!" "Yuck, you pooped!" "We have to change you, you're dirty/yucky/stinky/smelly..." I encourage you to use language to normalize pooping because....well, EVERYONE POOPS.

For kids who are feeling negative about pooping, this book works to normalize the pooping. It talks about everyone that poops and touches on why. It has a bit of humor and cute Japenese illustrations.

This book is an Usborne book and I would be happy to help you order it. Just go to my Usborne website here and if it prompts you for an "event", just select the one that corresponds with the season or month (e.g. "January shopping" or "summer shopping").

We LOVE LOVE LOVE this board book. Every page has multiple flaps to lift up, which keeps it interactive and yet educational at the same time. It talks about what exactly poop is, where it goes, who poops, etc. Great for the inquisitive mind. I've heard moms of 18 month olds and moms of 4 year olds alike say that this book is their child's favorite potty-related book.

Potty Training Made Easy eBook: this is something you can purchase online for $25 or you can just "borrow" it from me here ;)

It has some good ideas and is worth a quick read. I'm not sure it's the end-all, be-all to potty training, but every little piece of advice is a good one when it comes to potty training!
