About the workshop:

Explore how to best support your child’s speech and language development in the first year, as well as how and when to introduce solid foods. Perfect for the expecting couple or for parents with a young infant. Led by certified speech-language pathologist, Emily Goudreault, who provides years of professional experience as a pediatric speech therapist and feeding therapist.
 
Topics explored include:

Speech & Language Development

• How your child is communicating with and understanding you at each stage of the first year
• Specific activities and strategies to support your child’s speech & language development in each stage of the first year

Early Literacy Development

• How to nurture literacy skills and a love for reading
• What are your goals as you read to a baby? I mean, they're kind of just laying there...right?!
• Book suggestions for each stage of the first year

Baby Sign Language: Yay or Nay?

• Current research and potential benefits of using sign language with babies
• Discussion of whether sign language slows verbal speech development
• Introduction to and teaching of basic signs appropriate for babies

Introducing Solid Foods

• Best ages to introduce solid foods and why
• How to create good eating habits and promote exploration of a variety of foods
• **Please note: we will not go into much detail on breastfeeding, but Gold Coast Doulas and Renew Mama offers some great resources for those wanting to learn more about breastfeeding!
